GiveOwlPrivacy Policy for GiveOwl
1. Who is responsible?
The controller is HENDT AS, Norway. Email: info@hendtas.com.
2. What is stored on your device
The following is stored locally in the app (or in your browser on giveowl.com). We cannot access it, and it is not sent to us:
- which giveaways and calendars you have marked as favorites;
- which giveaways you have marked as entered (“My entries” and “Today”) and on which days, used for streaks and the advent calendar grid;
- your settings: language, country, filters and sorting (for example “No purchase necessary”), and your reminder settings;
- a copy of the latest list the app downloaded, so it works offline.
Your language and country are picked from your device settings the first time you open GiveOwl. This happens on your device; we do not use your location. If you have turned on Android’s automatic backup, it may include app data in the backup to your Google account. On iPhone, app data may be included in your iCloud or device backup if you have turned that on. You can delete all data by uninstalling the app, by using “Clear storage” in Android settings, or by clearing site data in your browser.
GiveOwl has no login, no ads, no in-app purchases, no analytics, no tracking cookies and no crash reporting. The app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or files.
Reminders
If you turn on reminders, the app asks your phone’s operating system (Android or iOS) for permission to show notifications. Reminders (for example the day before a favorite giveaway closes) are scheduled locally on your device by the operating system. No reminder data is sent to us or to any push service, and you can turn reminders off at any time in the app or in your phone’s settings.
Sharing
When you tap “Share”, your phone’s share menu (Android or iOS) opens with a link to the listing on giveowl.com. You choose which app to share with, and that app’s privacy policy applies. Nothing is sent to us.
Rating the app
After you have used the Android app for a while, it may ask Google Play to show Google’s rating dialog (at most once every 90 days). If you leave a rating or review, it is sent to Google Play and handled under Google’s terms and privacy policy, just like a review written in the Play Store. On iPhone, the app may ask iOS to show Apple’s rating dialog (Apple shows it at most three times a year). A rating is sent to Apple and handled under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. GiveOwl does not receive any information from either dialog, not even whether you rated.
3. Updating the list
To show new giveaways, the app downloads an updated list from https://giveowl.com/data.json. The request contains no information about you, but as with any web request the server sees your IP address and technical information such as device or browser type. The service that hosts the website and the list, GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.), may keep such data in short-lived technical logs according to its own policies. We do not use this data to identify you.
If you turn on “New entries” notifications in the app, your phone downloads the same list in the background, only when you are online: on Android about twice a day, on iPhone when iOS allows it (Background App Refresh). The app compares it on your device with the entries you have already seen and shows one notification if there is something new. The list of seen entries stays on your device, and the request is the same as above: it contains no information about you. If giveowl.com cannot be reached, the app downloads the identical public file from GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com); that request contains no information about you either. You can turn this off at any time in the app’s settings.
4. Submitting a giveaway
The “Submit a giveaway” page on giveowl.com does not store anything. It prepares an email in your own email app. If you send it, we receive the details you wrote and your email address, and use them only to review the listing and reply to you. We delete the email when it is no longer needed, normally within 12 months.
5. Links to organizers
GiveOwl only links onwards. When you tap “Enter at organizer”, the organizer’s website opens in your browser, and the organizer’s official rules and privacy policy apply. We are not responsible for organizers’ giveaways, prizes or how they handle your data. Paid listings are labeled “Sponsored”, and affiliate links are labeled “Ad” (see section 5a).
5a. Sponsored listings, affiliate links and ads
GiveOwl may show sponsored listings (marked “Sponsored”) and affiliate links (marked “Ad”). With an affiliate link, the organizer or an affiliate network may pay us a commission if you enter or buy something after following the link. It costs you nothing extra. Payment never decides which giveaways we list or how we describe them, and we only list giveaways that follow our quality rules.
When you open such a link, it opens in your browser, and the affiliate network or the organizer may use cookies or similar technology on their own website to register that you came from GiveOwl. That happens under their privacy policy, not in the GiveOwl app. The app itself does not track you.
GiveOwl does not show ads in the app today. If we add ads later, we will update this policy and the app’s data safety information first.
6. Children
GiveOwl is intended for adults aged 18 and over, because most giveaways and sweepstakes only accept entrants who are 18 or older (some require 21+), as stated in the organizer’s rules. GiveOwl is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app does not collect personal information from anyone.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or state privacy laws in the US such as the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal information, to data portability, to object, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have no user accounts, so we usually cannot link any data to you. Contact us at info@hendtas.com and we will help. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. In the EEA you may also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.no) or your local authority.
8. Changes
We update this policy when GiveOwl changes, for example when features or service providers are added. The date at the top shows the current version.

Personvernerklæring for GiveOwl

2. Hva lagres på enheten din
Dette lagres lokalt i appen (eller i nettleseren på giveowl.com). Vi har ikke tilgang til det, og det sendes ikke til oss:
- hvilke konkurranser og kalendere du har markert som favoritter;
- hvilke konkurranser du har markert som deltatt («Mine deltakelser» og «I dag») og hvilke dager, brukt til rekker og lukeruten;
- innstillinger: språk, land, filtre og sortering (for eksempel «Uten kjøp»), og innstillingene for påminnelser;
- en kopi av den siste oversikten appen lastet ned, slik at den virker uten nett.
Språk og land velges ut fra innstillingene på enheten første gang du åpner GiveOwl. Det skjer på enheten; vi bruker ikke posisjonen din. Android kan ta med appdataene i den automatiske sikkerhetskopien til Google-kontoen din hvis du har slått det på. På iPhone kan appdataene komme med i iCloud- eller enhetssikkerhetskopien hvis du har slått det på. Du sletter alle data ved å fjerne appen, velge «Tøm lagringsplass» i Android-innstillingene eller slette nettstedsdata i nettleseren.
GiveOwl har ingen innlogging, ingen reklame, ingen kjøp i appen, ingen analyseverktøy, ingen sporingscookies og ingen krasjrapportering. Appen ber ikke om tilgang til posisjon, kontakter, kamera, mikrofon eller filer.
Påminnelser
Slår du på påminnelser, ber appen operativsystemet på telefonen (Android eller iOS) om tillatelse til å vise varsler. Påminnelsene (for eksempel dagen før en favorittkonkurranse stenger) planlegges lokalt på enheten av operativsystemet. Ingen data om påminnelsene sendes til oss eller til noen push-tjeneste, og du kan slå dem av når som helst i appen eller i innstillingene på telefonen.
Deling
Trykker du «Del», åpnes delingsmenyen på telefonen (Android eller iOS) med en lenke til oppføringen på giveowl.com. Du velger selv hvilken app du deler med, og den appens personvernerklæring gjelder. Ingenting sendes til oss.
Vurdering av appen
Når du har brukt Android-appen en stund, kan den be Google Play om å vise Googles vurderingsvindu (høyst én gang per 90 dager). Gir du en vurdering eller anmeldelse, sendes den til Google Play og behandles etter Googles vilkår og personvernerklæring, akkurat som en anmeldelse skrevet i Play Butikk. På iPhone kan appen be iOS om å vise Apples vurderingsvindu (Apple viser det høyst tre ganger i året). En vurdering sendes til Apple og behandles etter Apples vilkår og personvernerklæring. GiveOwl får ingen opplysninger fra noen av vinduene, heller ikke om du ga en vurdering.
3. Oppdatering av oversikten
For å vise nye konkurranser henter appen en oppdatert liste fra https://giveowl.com/data.json. Forespørselen inneholder ingen opplysninger om deg, men som ved alle nettforespørsler ser serveren IP-adressen din og teknisk informasjon som enhets- eller nettlesertype. Tjenesten som lagrer nettstedet og lista, GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.), kan føre slike data i kortvarige tekniske logger etter egne retningslinjer. Vi bruker ikke disse dataene til å identifisere deg.
Slår du på varsler om «Nye oppføringer» i appen, laster telefonen ned den samme lista i bakgrunnen, bare når du er på nett: på Android omtrent to ganger i døgnet, på iPhone når iOS tillater det (Oppdater i bakgrunnen). Appen sammenligner den på enheten med oppføringene du allerede har sett, og viser ett varsel hvis noe er nytt. Lista over sette oppføringer blir på enheten, og forespørselen er den samme som over: den inneholder ingen opplysninger om deg. Kan ikke giveowl.com nås, laster appen ned den samme offentlige fila fra GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com); heller ikke den forespørselen inneholder opplysninger om deg. Du kan slå dette av når som helst i innstillingene i appen.
4. Melde inn en konkurranse
Siden «Meld inn en konkurranse» på giveowl.com lagrer ingenting. Den lager en e-post i ditt eget e-postprogram. Sender du den, mottar vi opplysningene du skrev og e-postadressen din, og bruker dem bare til å vurdere oppføringen og svare deg. Vi sletter e-posten når den ikke lenger trengs, normalt innen 12 måneder.
5. Lenker til arrangører
GiveOwl lenker bare videre. Når du trykker «Delta hos arrangør», åpnes arrangørens nettside i nettleseren din, og arrangørens vilkår og personvernerklæring gjelder. Vi står ikke ansvarlige for arrangørenes konkurranser, premier eller hvordan de behandler opplysningene dine. Betalte oppføringer og affiliate-lenker merkes «Annonse» (se punkt 5a).
5a. Sponsede oppføringer, affiliate-lenker og reklame
GiveOwl kan vise sponsede (betalte) oppføringer og affiliate-lenker. Begge merkes tydelig «Annonse». Ved en affiliate-lenke kan arrangøren eller et affiliate-nettverk betale oss provisjon hvis du deltar eller handler noe etter å ha fulgt lenken. Det koster deg ingenting ekstra. Betaling bestemmer aldri hvilke konkurranser vi tar med eller hvordan vi beskriver dem, og vi tar bare med konkurranser som følger kvalitetskravene våre.
Når du åpner en slik lenke, åpnes den i nettleseren, og affiliate-nettverket eller arrangøren kan bruke informasjonskapsler eller lignende teknologi på sitt eget nettsted for å registrere at du kom fra GiveOwl. Det skjer etter deres personvernerklæring, ikke i GiveOwl-appen. Appen sporer deg ikke.
GiveOwl viser ikke reklame i appen i dag. Hvis vi legger til reklame senere, oppdaterer vi først denne erklæringen og appens opplysninger om datasikkerhet.
6. Barn
GiveOwl er laget for voksne fra 18 år, fordi de fleste konkurranser bare godtar deltakere som er 18 år eller eldre (noen krever 21 år), slik det står i arrangørens vilkår. GiveOwl er ikke rettet mot barn. Vi samler ikke bevisst inn personopplysninger fra barn, og appen samler ikke inn personopplysninger fra noen.
7. Dine rettigheter
Etter personvernforordningen (GDPR) har du rett til innsyn, retting, sletting, begrensning, dataportabilitet og til å protestere mot behandling. Vi har ingen brukerkontoer og kan derfor som regel ikke knytte opplysninger til deg. Ta likevel kontakt på info@hendtas.com, så hjelper vi deg. Du kan klage til Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no) eller til tilsynsmyndigheten der du bor.
8. Endringer
Vi oppdaterer denne erklæringen når GiveOwl endres, for eksempel ved nye funksjoner eller nye tjenesteleverandører. Datoen øverst viser siste versjon.
